Chapter 18: Treating Drug Dependence

Women and Treatment
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, no single treatment is appropriate for all individuals. Drug abuse among women may require different treatment approaches. Read the NIDA InfoFacts paper on Treatment Methods for Women, as well as some of the recommended readings involving gender differences (which can be obtained through the right sidebar link), and prepare a 1-page paper describing health risks and treatment issues that may be unique to women.

Finding Treatment
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, treatment needs to be readily available. Log on to the SAMSHA treatment facility locator, and find the treatment facilities in your city/state. Describe how these facilities and treatment options compare with cities/states larger and smaller than your own.
